Like a lot of people, I have goals and I try to write them out (digitally) as often as possible. For whatever reason, my goals have started feeling like tedious tasks and chores. I dread looking at the list because I really haven't accomplished much. I give myself reasons why I should be doing other things that would make me feel better. Another week, month and quarter would pass and I would still have the same goals over and over again. I started doing research on goals to determine if there was something I could change about the way I set my goals. I was setting "SMART" goals and writing them, but that's where it ended. I would not act on the goals I set and became disappointed in myself for not achieving anything.
Then, I came across this article on goals vs intentions:
The article states these differences between goals and intentions:
Goals are focused on the future. Intentions are in the present moment.
Goals are a destination or specific achievement. Intentions are lived each day, independent of reaching the goal or destination.
Goals are external achievements. Intentions are your inner-relationships with yourself and others.

I think the reason I was failing at my goals was because I wasn't enjoying the journey to completing them. I don't want to just check items off a list, I want to build habits and have a feeling of accomplishment. The goals I'd set were for things I knew I should accomplish, but there was no why behind them, no intent, so they weren't a priority in my life.

So, every week in my journal and on this blog, I plan to share my intentions/goals for the week. Part of fulfilling intentions is putting them out in the Universe, I'm doing it by putting the list on the blog as well. The intentions may be the same from week to week, but the goals behind them will change. I've thought about adding affirmations to support the intentions and goals, but for now I'll start with this.
My intentions for this week:
To look and feel great in my body
Create an orderly, beautiful, healthy and serene environment
Create work that is fulfilling my life's purpose and is financially viable
To raise my kids to be happy, healthy and thriving
To realize these intentions I will:
- yoga 3xs
- read/study for 20-30 minutes a day
- organize my workspace
- order summer reading workbooks for the kids
- start thinking about how I want the bedroom organized
- clean off kitchen counters every night before going to bed
- summer bucket list
- develop a My Everyday Life post series
